How Delaware withholding works

Delaware's six-bracket progressive tax

The first $2,000 of Delaware taxable income is exempt (0% rate), and brackets then step up from 2.20% to 6.60%. A $3,250 standard deduction reduces taxable income before the brackets apply. For most workers, the combined effect of the 0% bottom bracket and the standard deduction means a meaningful share of wages is untaxed before the progressive rates start climbing.

Wilmington wage tax

Wilmington levies a wage tax on residents and on non-residents who work in the city. This is withheld by employers on top of state income tax and appears as a separate line on pay stubs for affected workers. If you live outside Wilmington and your employer is not located there, this tax generally does not apply. Confirm your worksite status with payroll if you are unsure.
