New York State income tax
New York's state income tax is progressive, starting at 4% and rising to 10.9% for the highest earners. As with all bracketed taxes, each portion of your income is taxed at its own band's rate, so your effective rate is lower than your top marginal rate.
New York City resident tax
If you are a New York City resident, the city levies its own income tax (roughly 3.0%–3.9%) in addition to state tax — and it applies based on where you live, not just where you work. Use the NYC checkbox in the calculator to include it. Yonkers also has a resident surcharge, which the statewide brackets here do not separately model.
